Privacy Policy

_Last updated: 12/06/2026

This website anegio.com is a personal blog operated by George Anestopoulos (“I”, “me”). This page explains what personal data the site does and does not collect, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) .

The short version

  • No tracking cookies. No advertising. No selling of data.
  • I do not ask you to log in, register, or hand over personal details to read this site.
  • The only data processed is what’s technically necessary to serve the pages, plus anything you voluntarily provide (e.g. by leaving a comment or emailing me).

What is collected, and why

1. Server / hosting logs

When you visit, my hosting provider automatically records standard technical information in server logs: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser/operating-system user-agent.

  • Why: to deliver the site, keep it secure, and diagnose faults.
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating a secure, functioning website.
  • Retention: these logs are kept by the host for a short period and then deleted/rotated. Hosting provider: Hetzner Online GmbH.

2. A theme preference (local only)

If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is stored in your own browser (localStorage), not sent to me. It contains no personal data and you can clear it any time via your browser settings. This is a strictly necessary functional preference and requires no consent.

3. Comments (Giscus / GitHub)

Comments on posts are powered by Giscus, which stores comments as GitHub Discussions. To comment you sign in with your GitHub account; your comment, GitHub username and avatar are then public.

  • Why: to let readers discuss posts.
  • Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — you choose to sign in and post.
  • Important: when the comment widget loads and when you sign in, your data is processed by GitHub, Inc. (Microsoft) under GitHub’s Privacy Statement. I do not control GitHub’s processing. The widget loads from giscus.app.

4. Embedded content (YouTube, diagrams)

Some posts embed third-party content:

  • YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com); YouTube sets no cookies until you click play. Playing a video involves Google’s processing under its own policy.
  • Diagrams may load a rendering library from the jsDelivr CDN (no tracking).

What I do NOT do

  • No advertising or ad networks.
  • No third-party tracking or fingerprinting.
  • No cross-site tracking cookies.
  • No newsletter / mailing list (unless you contact me directly).

Contacting me by email

If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you write, and keep it only as long as needed to handle your message. Legal basis: legitimate interest (or the steps to answer your request).

Changes

I may update this policy; the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
